Program Overview
The thirteenth Annual Global Leadership Program is a comprehensive month-long program that includes: university courses, cultural activities, and community service. The program is open to undergraduate university students from around the world.
Students will complete two full academic courses: one core unit and one elective.
• The core course, Philosophies of Leadership, is a dynamic and interactive class that considers different leadership styles and philosophies and how they apply to modern day business, political and community leaders.
• There are four elective courses to choose from: Global Business, Social Entrepreneurship, Human Rights, or, Media, Democracy and Development. The first three electives have received rave reviews from past participants, the Media course is new for 2012.

Community Service
Work with members of the Czech community on service projects. These activities are not only rewarding, but allow you to put theoretical knowledge learned in the classroom to practical use.
Field-trips
Visit the Czech countryside for a team building retreat. Later in the program, raise your awareness of human tragedy by visiting Terezin, former concentration camp during WWII.
Speakers
Get first-hand advice from leaders in business, politics, education, and the public sector.
Workshops
Learn practical skills, such as public speaking techniques, how to write business plans, and, most importantly, how to create and implement a project in your home community.

International Trade Finance Program

Program Overview
This International Trade Finance program is taught in English and run by AIM Overseas’ partner in Hong Kong, Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
The course takes full advantage of Hong Kong’s location at the heart of Asian finance and is a great mix of lectures and sites visits making for a very dynamic program.
Over 3 intensive weeks, you will attend 36 hours of classes where you will take an in-depth look at the international dimension of finance from the viewpoint of both the market and the company. You will consider how different types of companies (public, private, start ups) make finance decisions and raise the necessary financing.
The course will also address the different financial and strategic aspects of mergers and acquisitions. Attention will be devoted to the investment funds industry, the different types of funds and investment strategies that exist and look at how Hong Kong maintains its leading role within East Asia.
The program will involve interactive group work and visits to places such as the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the Monetary Authority, the Securities and Future Commission etc.

Global Leadership Program: Peace, Conflict and Religion in Rome

Program Overview
The ‘Comparative study of Peace, Conflict and Religion’ program is an exciting opportunity for you to examine the vitally important question of the role of religion and culture in contemporary world affairs. Add in the fact that the course takes place in one of Europe's most beautiful and historical cities, Rome, and you have a recipe for a truly unique experience.

Over the course of four dynamic weeks you will take two academic courses with students from around the world:

• Comparative Study of Peace, Conflict and Religion
• Cross-cultural Leadership

The Academic Courses

“Comparative Study of Peace, Conflict, and Religion” places a special focus on the comparative assessment of religion's impact both on conflict creation and conflict resolution. It addresses questions such as:
- In what ways has religious faith engendered economic, political, and military conflict?; and,
- In what ways has religion served a peace-making function in contemporary social and political affairs?
We live, as one noted commentator remarks, in a world awash with the claims of religious truth. The course will assess in an objective manner, free both from proselytizing and from a presumptive cynicism about religious faith, these critically important questions for our global community.

“Cross-Cultural Leadership” is about leading in a dynamic 21st century world. It is designed to help you understand the relationship between culture, globalisation, and leadership. What is culture? How does culture influence our behaviour and decisions as leaders and followers? Is culture a source of conflict in today's world? What is globalisation? What are the potential conflicts between culture and globalisation? You will discover how we are shaped by culture and globalisation and how we can, in turn, contribute to this ever-changing world.

Each course is worth 6 ECTS (European credits) and is transcripted by Charles University and is run in conjunction with Leadership exCHANGE.

Over the four weeks you will gain invaluable skills and knowledge. In particular, you will:

• Explore the main religions
• Think critically about how religion impacts international affairs
• Create a network of leaders
• Meet people from around the world
• Broaden knowledge about spanerse cultures
• Develop public speaking and analytical thinking skills

Rome is a vibrant city filled with history and is a perfect location for the program. In the afternoons, you will go on cultural tours and site visits, such as the Vatican, and also have guest lecturers from leaders in the field of religion and leadership. There will also be some free-time to explore the city on your own or with your new friends from around the world.

Accommodation

Accommodation is included in the program fee and will be in double or triple occupancy dorm rooms in the city centre, minutes from the Vatican. You will have the choice to cook in kitchens in the dorm or to eat at the numerous cafes and restaurants in the city. Rome has a public transportation system consisting of buses, trams, and metros.

Program Overview
Lombardy is an Italian region which, if it were to stand alone, would represent the 22nd biggest economy in the world. No less than 70% of Lombardy’s business take place in Milan, the region’s capital, making Milan Italy’s capital of business, culture and design innovation.
This program, run in Milan by Cattolica Universita del Sacro Cuore, will give you an in-depth look into industries that Italy is famous for leading such as: fashion and design, tourism, agribusiness, art or entrepreneurship.
The lectures and seminars take place on Cattolica Universita’s stunning campus, that revolves around a magnificent ancient monastery, giving students a chance to enjoy Italy’s historical heritage while staying in one of the busiest and trendiest parts of Milan.
The course will give you a strong understanding of Italian Business in the context of the European Union, focusing in particular on Italy’s culture of entrepreneurship and the role of small and medium enterprises in its economy.
The seminars, led by industry professionals, will give you up-close exposure to the best practices of the Italian entrepreneurial system and the on-site visits to Como and Portofino a chance to see the theories you’ve learned applied in the field.

Leadership Program in Panama

Program Overview
The Leadership Program: Panama is a comprehensive four-week program that includes university courses, leadership development and cultural activities, and community service. It is a competitive-entry program open to undergraduate university students from around the world.

All students take an academic course on ‘Leadership and Organisational Change’, then choose one of two electives, either:
• Politics of Developing Areas, or
• Social Entrepreneurship
The program attracts strong delegations from the USA and Mexico. Combined with the Australian delegation this leads to an international flavour that transcends cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

Cultural Activities, Fieldtrips and Community Service
The academic courses are complemented by afternoon tours, speakers, and site visits. Field trips may include the Panama Canal, City of Knowledge, United Nations Information Centre and trip to the Panamanian rainforest to visit the Embera indigenous community.

In order to better understand the socioeconomic issues that face members of the community, students will also participate in a community service activity. The 2010 community service project allowed students to apply their leadership knowledge by creating a training workshop for volunteers of ‘Movimento Nueva Generacion’.

City of Knowledge
Students live and study in the City of Knowledge, an international complex for education, research, and innovation, that was developed to "promote and facilitate synergy between universities, scientific research centers, businesses, and international organisations." Several important international organisations are housed in the City of Knowledge, including: United Nations Information Centre, International Red Cross Federation offices, PAHO Disaster Management offices, and Peace Corps offices, UNICEF Regional Office, and the World Food Organisation offices. It is a goal of the City of Knowledge to become a place in which people from various backgrounds, students, professors, scholars, scientists, and business people alike, can come together for the sharing of ideas and the exchange of knowledge.

This is the third annual Global Leadership Program in Panama and second Australian delegation.

International Security in the Modern World

Program Overview
Society faces many significant challenges in terms of international security. If we think about some of the pivotal global issues of recent times (such as the rise of terrorism) it is immediately apparent how inter-linked and interdependent countries are in the modern world. The International Security in the Modern World will analyse some of the world’s most pressing security issues, with a particular emphasis on Eastern Europe’s place in the middle of these issues.
This intensive and dynamic course will involve academic classes, active group work, guest presentations and visits and is ideal for students studying international relations, politics, security studies or policing, criminal studies, Global Relations, history or international law.
The Course
Over the course of recent history one of the world’s key regions in relation to security has been Central and Eastern Europe. This region was one of the most unstable throughout the 20th Century and has seen some of the most testing conflicts of history: the World Wars began here, the Cold War was played out across its States and modern conflicts in the Western Balkans and Caucasus have taken place on its doorstep. Taught in the Czech Republic, the program is ideally located for students to be able to gain a regional perspective on both the historical and modern aspects of international security.
The program covers three main topics:
• Energy security
• Terrorism, nationalism and ethnic conflicts
• Transnational crime
The course is fully taught in English and has been designed to count as a regular, semester-length course at an Australian university.

The Location
The program is ideally located at Masaryk University in Brno, Czech Republic. Masaryk University is an excellent university ideally located at the cross-roads of Europe: Vienna, Prague, Budapest and many other destinations are just a few hours away.
Brno is a brilliant little city: full of charm and character-filled streets. Transport is easy, meals inexpensive and summer in this city is a unique experience for both first time or seasoned travellers.

International Environmental Law

Program Overview
The environment, by nature, knows no boundaries. While environmental law originally focused on local problems like local air and noise pollution, today we are confronted with severe trans-boundary and global environmental problems like the continuing loss of biodiversity, long-distance air-pollution, and the threat of climate change. This dynamic course on International Environmental Law will tackle core subjects related to the supra-nationalisation of environmental law.
The course will be structured around the following themes:
• international environmental rule-making, including compliance and enforcement
• international environmental principles
• human rights and environmental protection
• international and EU climate law, including the choice of the right regulatory instruments to steer citizen & business behaviour.
Over 3 intensive weeks, you will attend 36 hours of classes on a range of topics related to International Environmental Law. Alongside the academic classes are a range of field trips to relevant organisations. This might include: the International Court of Justice, European Commission and UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (TBC).
Based in the beautiful city of Maastricht in the Netherlands, the program is ideally located to give students not only access to a world class university, but also to all of the cultural diversity of this fantastic corner of Europe: Belgium, France and Germany are all within easy striking distance.

Business in the USA

Program Overview
Although under threat from the economies of developing countries like China and India, the USA remains the world’s largest and most significant economy. When we think about doing business in a global context, it is impossible to ignore the importance of the US’s influence.
The ‘Business in the USA’ is essential for anyone who intends to work in an international context - whether you intend to work for a global company, a company that does business with the USA, or indeed work in the USA itself.
Over the course of 3 weeks and 36 hours of lectures and seminars, you will get a unique insight into US business issues and culture.
Topics are expected to include:
• The Future of American business
• Causes and consequences of the Global Financial Crisis
• Building relationships and networking in the USA
• Understanding leadership in American Organisations
• Venture capital, banking and finance

Business Communication for Meetings and Negotiations
It’s one thing to hear about business issues and culture and it’s another thing altogether to find out about it hands-on. One of the most exciting aspects of the program is the section on business communication for meetings and negotiations. In this part of the course, not only will you learn the theory about how to conduct meetings, interviews and negotiations in a US context, but you’ll learn and practice real-world skills. To top it off, you’ll be visiting a range of businesses to put your new skills to the test.
This is genuinely stepping out of the classroom and into the ‘Real World’.

International Law and Human Rights

Program Overview
This International Law and Human Rights program is taught in English and run by AIM Overseas’ partner in the beautiful Czech town of Brno, Masaryk university.
Home of the Czech Supreme Administrative Court, Constitutional Court and Supreme Prosecutor’s Office, Brno is ideally located at the cross-roads of Europe: Vienna, Prague, Budapest and many other destinations are just a few hours away.
The course takes full advantage of the location and is a great mix of lectures, sites visits and field-trips making for a very dynamic program.
Over 3 intensive weeks, you will attend classes on a range of subjects including European Union Law, Human Rights and Constitutional Law, as well as visit places such as the Ombudsman’s office or the Constitutional Court in Brno.
You will also go on fantastic overnight trips to the Czech Capital, Prague, as well as to Budapest in Hungary and Vienna in Austria to visit the United Nations office.

Health Care in Mexico

Program Overview
The Health Care System in Mexico program is run by the University of La Salle, home of one of Mexico’s most important medical and health sciences faculties. The program explores the development and maintenance of the Mexican health system in the context of how developing countries manage their health systems.
The program also looks at community health – the university has excellent linkages with community organisations working in some of the poorer areas of Mexico City. This allows participants to get a feel for the ‘front line’ of dealing with health issues in a developing country.
La Salle University never fail to deliver beautiful courses and fantastic service for students and this program is no different. The course includes 36 hours of lectures and seminars, 30 hours of presentations and site visits, an extensive number of cultural activities and much more.
While Mexico has an excellent private health care system that sees many North Americans traveling there (as prices are considerably lower in Mexico), its public hospitals remain underfunded and lack equipment and resources.
Over the last 10 years Mexico health system has undergone a thorough reform to improve its performance and the health of Mexicans has experienced marked progress.
Mexico is a great location to examine the strengths and weaknesses of a health system in terms of access to health care, quality of care, efficient supply of services and the financial sustainability of the system.

Spanish Language, History & Culture in Mexico

Program Overview
This Spanish program is run by AIM Overseas’ partner La Salle University and is opened to students at beginner, intermediate and advanced level.
La Salle University is set in one of the most beautiful and lively areas of Mexico City, La Condesa, which is full of restaurants, bars and tree-lined streets.
Mexico City offers a wonderfully diverse environment with its Centro Historico, Spanish colonial architecture, great museums, pre-Hispanic waterways, nearby spectacular pyramids etc…
The university is well known for the level of the courses it delivers - the teaching faculty provides language programs to a large section of the diplomatic and expatriate community - and its excellent level of students’ services.
The 2011 program included*:
• 45 hours of intensive Spanish Language classes (beginner, intermediate and advanced level available)
• 4 hours of conversation classes
• 18 hours of classes in Mexican History, Culture and Traditions
• Mexican cooking and salsa class
• Day trips to the pyramids, Xochicalco, Tepotzotlan, Coyoacan, Xochimilco etc
• Overnight trip to Puebla and Cholula
Accommodation is in Homestay, with easy access to the University, and includes two meals per day.

Program Overview

This program gives education students a rare opportunity to undertake an intensive international study program. The course, hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, will give participants detailed insight into teaching theory and practice in the USA today as well as an opportunity to observe classroom teaching in practice.
The dynamic city of Charlotte, close to the East Coast, serves as a stunning backdrop for this program that will include lectures and seminars, site visits and classroom time in a US school. Program Overview
AIM Overseas is enormously excited to open applications for the Positive Psychology program at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. This program has been several years in the making!
Over 3 weeks, and 36 hours of classes, this program is intended to familiarise you with the concepts and ideas of positive psychology. Through lectures, interactive meetings, group discussions and practical workshops, it will provide you with in depth knowledge on selected topics within the field of positive psychology and give students hands on experience with some of the positive psychology intervention techniques.

About Positive Psychology
The Positive psychology was introduced by Martin Seligman around 2000 and can be viewed as a supplementary approach to clinical psychology. The positive psychological movement formulated three aims: (1) to focus on well-being and happiness instead of abnormal behaviour and psychopathology, (2) to be concerned with building positive qualities and strengths instead of repairing damage and (3) to prevent future problems instead of correcting past and present problems.
Positive psychology is relevant to students of both psychology and organisational behaviour.

International Relations & Politics in the EU

Program Overview
This International Relations and Politics in the European Union program is taught in English and run by AIM Overseas’ partner in the Netherlands, Maastricht University’s Center for European Studies (www.maastrichtuniversity.nl/ces).
Located in the southernmost part of the Netherlands, within walking distance of Belgium and cycling distance of Germany, Maastricht has developed a very hybrid culture throughout is history and now is a symbol of pan-European identity.
The course takes full advantage of the location and is a great mix of lectures, sites visits and fieldtrips making for a very dynamic program.
Over 3 intensive weeks, you will attend 39 hours of classes where you will take an in-depth look at the legal and political landscape of the EU and learn about the issues relating to international relations and human rights.
You will also visit places such as the International Court of Justice in The Hague or the European Parliament in Brussels.

Accommodation
The host university’s accommodation has a mix of single and shared rooms. Both options share communal kitchens and other facilities. There is a small cost difference between the shared and single options - students will be offered a choice on a first-come, first-served basis.
